Long considered one of the greatest live albums ever recorded, the Who's Live at Leeds was originally edited and packaged to resemble the haphazard state of early-'70s bootlegs, then expanded and sonically upgraded in the mids.
But this deluxe edition finally restores the blistering February Leeds University concert to its full running length by adding the band's earliest officially available live rendition of the then-fresh Tommy in its entirety. And while it isn't perfect the Tommy tracks have been moved from their original slot in the show and resequenced to fit onto disc 2 herelive at leeds 40th anniversary super-deluxe edition free download, this album now takes its place as the best available document of the Who in their truly ferocious prime, trumping the previously available Isle of Wight show recorded some six months later in both performance level and sound quality.

Roger Daltrey 's vocals snarl with palpable grit, while the rhythm section of John Entwistle and Keith Moon thunders menacingly along like an overheated locomotive. It is made in Germany and it is not the original version. The clicks and pops have been removed on this edition. I was hoping it was the original version. Haven’t played it yet so I’ll give five stars. I just wanted others to have this missing info so you know what you’re buying. Great Who album. The setting was far more intimate than the stadiums and the Who were really alive. I remember when My Generation was released captured the spirit of my times and this rendition Magic Bus is wonderful.
Many have said that this is the best Live album ever made. Its a close call for me with Stop Making Sense by the Talking Heads. All the extra tracks from the show really add to the album.

This review is for the latest vinyl issue of this great live LP, If you are looking for all of the inserts that came with the original LP issue forget about it none of them are here, But you do get a very nice Gram vinyl pressing with great sound, The LP comes in a very well made and sturdy gatefold cover.
Also includes the original song line up and nothing more. The Who's performance on this album is first rate. They never rocked harder. Moon's drumming and Entwhistle's bass drive Townshend to play some brilliant rock guitar. Soaring, intense guitar solos. Roger's singing is terrific. This has been one of my favorites for many years listen and you'll hear why I LOVE this record! Don't be! I don't see "remastered" printed on it anywhere but the sound is as good as any studio album today and this of course is a Live album, so I would give it slack BUT no need!!
The live recordings here sound as good to me as their studio versions and often seem full of more energy, especially Magic Bus, My Live at leeds 40th anniversary super-deluxe edition free download and others. I bought this album, original vinyl, nearly 50 years ago and oddly it's the newly added material which really has me excited to have this gem!

I like the slightly slowed-down version of "I Can't Explain," the change of pace in "Fortune Teller" as the song speeds up, the switch back and forth between Townshend and Roger Daltrey on vocals in "Tattoo. And the album ends on a high note as well. Before first hearing this album, I had wondered how a minute version of "My Generation" could be sustainable; then I heard it and understood.
This is a great live album and I can easily understand why it is considered a classic. Excellent sound quality. The drums, guitars and vocals come through nicely. Great set list. The intros to the songs and snippets of conversation are humorous and definitely add to the experience.
My favorite song is "Magic Bus" and its killer intro. Make sure you play this album with the volume up a bit to fully enjoy the dynamics and to hear the speaking sections. That made it more expensive if you account for inflation. The label was marked with something along the lines of "crackling sounds OK. Do not return to store. Despite owning the essential two-CD Deluxe Edition of LIVE AT LEEDS - which contains the entire concert - I thought it would be nice to acquire a reissue of this crucial live album on vinyl in its original configuration and featuring just six of the numbers performed on the night.
Firstly, I've no complaints about the quality of the vinyl itself. Cut at Abbey Road using the half-speed mastering process, the sound is rich and powerful and compares most favourably with the CD. The original "handwritten" labels are also present and correct at the centre of the record, in keeping with the original vinyl pressing. Unfortunately, however, the quality control employed with the disc itself hasn't been extended to the reproduced packaging.
For those like me who didn't have the opportunity to buy the album when it was originally released, the record and its plain white sleeve slotted into a kind of pouch inside the gatefold sleeve, while a compartment inside the front cover was the home to a dozen inserts which were reproductions of agents' letters, contracts, concert remuneration details and live photographs.
Despite the plain, rubber-stamped sleeve giving the impression of a hastily-pressed bootleg recording, LIVE AT LEEDS was actually quite a feast for the eyes as well the ears.
